Giant mealworms are just like normal mealworms except they have been treated with a hormone that prevents them from morphing into beatles. Mealworms are a traditional and popular live food for mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and particularly, bluebirds. The have a crude protein level of 50.4% and because of their fresh cereal and vegetable diet, not only are they extremely palatable for many species, they are an extremely safe food source.
